coupon lingo - we love couponing - newbies

LOL, TTYL, BRB; these are all acronyms that you probably see all the timeย and even use yourself. But what about YMMV or OOP? I don’t mean OPP (for those of you familiar with the term) and I’m not down with it either :-pย But, I am down with the coupon lingo.

If you’re new to couponing, some of the abbreviations couponers use may look like a foreign language to you. Luckily, I’ve compiled a list of the most referenced coupon acronyms so that you can get this coupon lingo down too!

Newspaper Inserts:

  • GM – General Mills Insert
  • PG {P&G} โ€“ Proctor & Gamble Insert
  • RP โ€“ Red Plum Insert
  • SS โ€“ Smart Source Insert

Abbreviations and Acronyms:

  • B2G1 โ€“ Buy 2 Get 1 Free
  • BD โ€“ Breakdown of how the shopping trip achieved the result.
  • BOGO50 โ€“ Buy One Get One 50% Off
  • B1G2 – Buy 1 Get 2 Free
  • BOGO & B1G1 โ€“ Buy One Get One Free
  • BRP โ€“ Balance Rewards Points {Walgreens}
  • BTW – By the Way
  • CVS – CVS {haha :p}
  • DND โ€“ Do Not Double
  • ECB โ€“ Extra Care Bucks {CVS}
  • ETS โ€“ Excludes Trial/Travel Size
  • FP – Fuel Perks
  • GC โ€“ Gift Card
  • HTH โ€“ Hope That/This Helps
  • IP – Internet Printable Coupon
  • ISO –ย  In Search Of {when trading coupons}
  • LMK – Let Me Know
  • MFR – Manufacture
  • MIR โ€“ Mail In Rebate
  • MM โ€“ Moneymaker
  • MQ – Manufacturer Coupon
  • NEDย – No Expiration Date
  • NSRย – No Size Restriction
  • OOP โ€“ Out of Pocket
  • OOS – Out of Stock
  • OYNO – On Your Next Order
  • PQ – Publix Coupon
  • Q – Coupon
  • RC – Raincheck
  • RP – Red Plum Insert
  • RR โ€“ Register Rewards {Walgreens}
  • SASEย – Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
  • S/Hย – Shipping and Handling
  • SQ – Store Coupon (Coupons that are issued by the storeand can -in most cases- be used along with a manufacturer coupon on the same item)
  • TQ – Target Coupon
  • UFT โ€“ Up For Trade
  • UPCย –ย Universal Product Code ~ this is the bar code found on the package. It will have lines for the cashier to scan to ring up.
  • Wags – Walgreens
  • WD – Winn Dixie
  • WT or HT – Wine Tag or Hang Tag {hangs over neck of product}
  • WSLย – While Supplies Last
  • WYB โ€“ When You Buy
  • WYS – When You Spend
  • YMMV โ€“ Your Mileage May Vary (May not be available in all stores)

Other Terms & Definitions:

  • Fillers: Items you add to your purchase to reach your total
  • Stacking: Using Both a Store Coupon and a Manufacturer’s Coupon on ONE item
  • Overage: When your coupons exceed the price of the item
  • Printable:ย A coupon that can be printed from the internet
  • Rebate:ย An offer to get all or part of your money back

    ? Can you get arrested if you pull the coupons off the items. And use them later.
